I identify myself with an absent-minded traveler who arrives in the city of Siena, a bright star in the sky of Tuscany.
Old, tortuous streets are set in motion. A pyramid city, at the top there are two vertices, one is sacred and the other is profane, the Cathedral and the Public Palace. The past merges with the present, the brick and stone walls whisper stories, they welcome the waving flags, setting precise boundaries of the various districts.
What are the districts ( Contrade ) ?
17 Pieces of City, "Peoples" that go to the horse race "Il Palio" in the heart of the city centre: "Piazza del Campo", following centuries-old traditions...
This magic, that emotionally abducts you, can be read on the territory arranged like a chessboard of colors, every piece is unique... with its own history, and its legends.
Each district takes life and gives life to the houses, the churches, the gardens, the stable where the horse is kept like a relic, to the baptismal font where the "Cittini" ( little children) receive the consecration of the Contrada and to each hidden corner, in a perfect symbiosis.
But above all, the districts are made by the people who live there, like an extended family, where everyone does their part in helping each other, caring about the territory and working for those few minutes of the Plio's race that everyone's heart suffers.
Siena is made by the Contrade and can not exist without them.
Siena is made of kaleidoscopic emotions, which you can only experiment here.
“Per forza e per amore”.
